The variety is a traditional Sicilian crop and is primarily used in blends for the production of oils with protected geographical status, such as DOP Monti Iblei or IGP Sicilia. The fruits are characterized as small or medium-sized and are valued for their high oil content.

The oil obtained from this variety has a harmonious taste with moderate bitterness and pungency, as well as high storage stability due to its polyphenols. In agronomic practice, the variety is adapted to the local climatic conditions of Sicily and is used as a pollinator in a number of farms.

There is data regarding the possible identification of Verdese with the Nocellara Messinese variety, however, in a number of official registers they are listed as separate entries, which requires clarification of the botanical classification for professional use.
