The Verdello variety is traditional for the eastern part of Sicily, particularly the Messina area. It is a vigorous plant with limited alternate bearing that tolerates humid weather conditions well during the spring period and has no issues with flowering and pollination.
The fruits of the variety have a green color, medium or small size, and a small, dense pit. Verdello is used exclusively as an oilseed variety for producing olive oil with an intense aroma and flavor notes of green almond, thistle, freshly cut grass, and spices.
Due to its rarity, the variety is more often used in blends to enrich the organoleptic properties and color of the oil. Oil from these olives is characterized by low acidity.
