Hansen 536 rootstock is a hybrid of almond and peach, obtained by manual cross-pollination of Almond B and Peach 1-8-2 varieties. It is used for grafting almond, peach, plum, and prune, while showing incompatibility with apricot. The plant is characterized by very high vigor, which contributes to a significant increase in the size of grafted trees.
This rootstock is resistant to root-knot nematodes, with the exception of Meloidogyne floridensis, to which it is susceptible. It has shown high sensitivity to bacterial canker, Phytophthora, Verticillium wilt, crown gall, and oak root fungus. The crop requires deep, well-drained soils, is extremely sensitive to waterlogging, but is tolerant to saline, alkaline soils and excess boron.
The plant is distinguished by excellent anchorage and low root suckering. The use of the rootstock is limited to zones with specific soil conditions due to its susceptibility to specific diseases.
