The Mayor rootstock possesses high growth vigor, although in a number of studies its growth vigor is assessed as somewhat lower compared to the GF 677 rootstock. When using this rootstock, the fruit size of grafted plants often turns out to be among the smallest in comparative trials.
The plant is well adapted to growing in poor, arid, and alkaline soils. The main disadvantages of the variety are its high vulnerability to root-knot nematodes and the difficulty of the clonal propagation process.
