The rootstock is an interspecific hybrid with the genetic formula (Prunus dulcis × P. persica) × P. persica. Externally, it is characterized by red leaves, which turn dark green on top upon maturation while retaining a purple hue on the underside. The plant is noted for early flowering and the complete absence of root suckers.
The plant possesses increased resistance to salinity and tolerates alkaline soils better compared to the Flordaguard variety. The rootstock is resistant to certain species of root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne; however, it may show susceptibility to Phytophthora and high sensitivity to bacterial canker under certain conditions.
