The variety is a chance seedling selected around 1850 in Hedelfingen. The mature tree reaches a height of 4–6 meters and forms a broadly rounded crown. The variety is characterized by high and regular yields, although it enters the bearing stage relatively late.
The fruits are large, weighing up to 7.7 g, and are broad-heart-shaped or oval-elongated in shape. Upon ripening, they turn from dark red to nearly black in color. The flesh is firm, juicy, and has a harmonious flavor, making it suitable for fresh consumption, canning, and processing.
The plant is quite adaptive and winter hardy. The flowers are sensitive to late spring frosts. In rainy summer conditions, the fruits are prone to cracking, while the variety possesses good transportability.
