The Charger rootstock was obtained through open pollination of Prunus avium seedlings. Trees on this rootstock are characterized as semi-vigorous, occupying an intermediate position between Colt and F12/1 in terms of growth vigor, with some data indicating the possibility of superior growth compared to the Colt rootstock.
This rootstock possesses resistance to bacterial canker of the aerial part, but shows sensitivity to bacterial root rot. Charger is considered productive; however, it does not possess properties of significant vigor reduction or stimulation of early cropping compared to dwarfing rootstocks.
