Cerise du Nord is a historical synonym for the old sour cherry variety (Prunus cerasus) Schattenmorelle. The variety belongs to the Morello group; its exact origin is unknown, but it is historically associated with Northern European regions.

The tree has medium vigor, reaching 3–4 meters, and is prone to branch bareness. The variety is characterized by a late ripening period. The medium-sized fruits are dark red, almost black in color, have a sour taste, and intensely colored juice.

The variety is considered productive and relatively drought-tolerant. The fruits are used as industrial raw material for confectionery production, the manufacture of juices, liqueurs, and other beverages, including cherry beer.
