The rootstock is a complex hybrid involving the species Prunus avium, Prunus cerasus, and Prunus fruticosa. Trees grafted onto this rootstock are characterized by a spreading branching habit and a tendency to produce root suckers.
Cass provides tree size control and increased productivity in intensive orchards. The rootstock shows moderate sensitivity to high soil pH levels and accelerates the ripening process of the scion by approximately one week compared to other types of rootstocks.
