The CAB 6P rootstock is classified as semi-vigorous or semi-dwarfing; trees grafted on it are 30% shorter than those on sweet cherry seedlings. The root system is well-developed with good anchorage, but prone to root suckering. The rootstock accelerates the onset of fruiting and fruit ripening of the scion.
The plant adapts well to heavy, poorly permeable, and calcareous soils with a lime content of up to 9%. It possesses resistance to Phytophthora, Verticillium, and nematodes, and is suitable for planting in areas after the grubbing of old orchards. It exhibits moderate sensitivity to Armillaria and low sensitivity to bacterial canker.
In commercial fruit growing, it is used to establish intensive sweet and sour cherry orchards of medium density with planting patterns from 500 to 800 trees per hectare. It contributes to increased fruiting efficiency and improved fruit quality of the scion, including size, color, and sugar content.
