The Cigánymeggy C.404 variety belongs to the traditional Hungarian sour cherry population. It ripens between mid and late June. The fruits have dark skin and flesh coloring and a pleasant sweet-and-sour taste.
A key morphological feature of the variety is the presence of a very short pedicel without an abscission layer between it and the fruit. The variety is a reliable pollinator for a number of sour cherry clones, including the Pándy group, and is itself capable of cross-pollination with other sour cherry and sweet cherry varieties.
