The rootstock is a hybrid of Prunus cerasus and Prunus canescens, obtained from open pollination of Gisela 5 seeds. It is characterized as a dwarfing rootstock with a vigor similar to Gisela 5.
Clinton ensures early tree bearing and high yields, which facilitates the establishment of high-density orchards. Unlike other rootstocks in the Corette series, it produces a minimal amount of root suckers. Due to the profuse flowering of trees on this rootstock, fruit thinning may be required to maintain fruit size.
