The variety is self-fertile and valued in breeding as a source of high resistance to fungal diseases. The fruits have a slightly elongated spherical shape, their diameter is 21–22 mm, and the color varies from dark carmine to dark burgundy.
Due to the high level of antioxidant activity and anthocyanin content, the variety is of value for functional nutrition. In scientific studies, Csengődi is classified as a dark-colored sour cherry genotype.
