The Marasca Nera del Piemonte variety is a representative of the Prunus cerasus var. marasca group. The tree is medium-sized, reaching 5–7 meters in height, and has an erect-spreading, rounded crown. The variety is characterized as hardy, capable of withstanding temperatures down to -23 °C, and is self-fertile.
The fruits are rounded in shape, and upon reaching full maturity, they acquire a color ranging from dark red to almost black. The flesh is juicy with a pronounced acidity that decreases during ripening. Fruit ripening occurs in June–July. The variety's yield is described as medium but stable.
The variety is traditionally in demand for processing. The fruits are a classic raw material for the production of Maraschino liqueur and are also used in the confectionery industry for creating cocktail cherries.
