The variety is historically associated with the Balkan region. In botanical classification, it belongs to the sour cherry group or the Morello group. The plant forms a tree or a shrub prone to producing root suckers.
The fruits have a sweet-and-sour or bittersweet taste and are widely used in processing for the production of alcoholic beverages, canning, and in the confectionery industry. In agronomic studies, the variety was examined in the context of studying resistance to fire blight.
