Variety description

10 August 2026

The term Spillinger has traditionally been used to refer to old or "semi-cultivated" forms of plums. It is not a breeding cultivar created by a specific breeder, but a group of plants that historically occurred in Denmark and Germany.

The morphological characteristics of the fruits vary: they are small in size, ranging from round to elongated in shape, and possess a varied coloration, including yellow, red, blue, and near-black shades. The flesh often separates well from the stone, although characteristics differ significantly between individual plants.

Due to the lack of standardization for this group of plants, there is no precise data on disease resistance, yield, or maturity dates. In the past, these plants were valued primarily for their low-maintenance cultivation as part of hedgerows.
