The tree is characterized as weak-growing with a narrow, upward-directed crown resembling a poplar. The variety is demanding regarding growing conditions, preferring warm, sheltered locations and moist soils; it is short-lived on quince rootstock. Regular rejuvenating pruning is required due to the tendency of fruit-bearing branches to age rapidly.
Fruits are medium to large in size, pear-shaped, often with characteristic asymmetry in the form of a hump near the stalk. The skin is yellow-green with a red-brown blush and a russet coating. The flesh is sweet, juicy, semi-melting, with a spicy or tart flavor. The variety belongs to the autumn-winter group; consumer maturity occurs from October to December.
The variety is weakly susceptible to scab but can be affected by the pear leaf blister mite. It is used as a dessert pear and is also suitable for drying and processing into juice.
