The variety is an old local seedling, presumably related to Welschen Bratbirne and the snow pear. Trees are characterized by longevity, reaching 200 years, and are traditionally trained as high-stem trees. The variety exhibits high frost resistance and adapts well to poor soils, although it is prone to biennial bearing.
The fruits are small to medium in size, with an average weight of about 80.5 g, and are round in shape. The skin is yellow-green, turning yellow upon ripening, sometimes with a red blush. The flesh is firm, juicy, and cream-colored. Harvesting begins in mid-October.
The fruits are practically not consumed fresh due to their firm consistency and astringency. The variety is a valuable raw material for the production of juices, cider (perry), schnapps, and traditional dried fruits (Kletzen), possessing a tart-sweet taste with a pronounced aroma when fully ripe.
