Under the name Margaretenbirne, different varieties may be implied: Poire Madeleine (Grüne Sommermagdalene), known since the 17th century, the local German variety Petersbirne (Lorenzbirne), or the French variety Kleine Margaretenbirne, bred in 1862.

When associated with the summer 'Magdalene' type, the fruits are characterized as small, often with a variable shape ranging from ovate to pyriform. The flesh is juicy, with a sweet-and-sour taste and a specific aroma. The skin is smooth, changing color during ripening from dark green to light green with a yellowish hue.

Trees of summer 'Magdalene' types usually form a pyramidal crown, while the wood is characterized by brittleness. The fruits belong to early summer varieties, the ripening period of which traditionally falls at the end of July.
