Fruits of the Petrovka variety ripen in early to mid-July, during the period of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. The fruit flesh is semi-oily and sweet in taste. The variety is intended primarily for fresh consumption.
The folk variety Petrovka should not be confused with the Russian selection variety Petrovskaya. The latter is characterized by fruits weighing 115–135 g of an elongated pear shape and medium-sized trees with geniculate brown shoots.
