The variety Doppelte Philippsbirne was found in Belgium around 1800 as a chance seedling. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and forms a broad, dense crown, the shoots of which may acquire a weeping shape over time. The variety enters bearing early and is capable of growing in harsh climatic conditions, up to high-altitude regions.

Fruits are large, reaching 8–10 cm in height, and have a broad-conical or almost spherical shape. The skin at maturity is golden-yellow with a possible pink blush and russet spots. The flesh is yellowish-white, melting, juicy, and sweet. The storage period for harvested fruits is from 2 to 4 weeks.

The plant is resistant to wind and many fungal diseases, including scab, but shows high sensitivity to fire blight. The variety is versatile: it is suitable for both fresh consumption and various types of processing, including drying and preparation of juices or compotes.
