Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is endemic to the slopes of Mount Amiata and is classified as Pyrus communis var. Achras. The tree is distinguished by its hardiness and is adapted to growing in cool mountain climate conditions at an altitude of about 800 meters above sea level.

The fruits are very small in size and have a round, slightly flattened shape. The greenish skin is often covered with grey-brown spots, which give it a rough texture. The harvest ripens during the period from August to September.

The fruit flesh is white, firm and granular, with moderate sweetness, which makes them unsuitable for fresh consumption. The variety is used for baking, boiling, and the preparation of syrups and Ratafia liqueur, as the firm structure allows the pears to maintain their shape during prolonged thermal processing.
