The variety is autochthonous to the foothill and mountainous areas of the provinces of Udine and Gorizia. It belongs to late-maturing varieties; harvest is carried out in late October — early November, after the first frosts, followed by ripening in storage facilities. There is a possibility that the variety is polyclonal.

The fruits are valued for their taste qualities when cooked and are suitable for storage until Christmas. Due to the small size of the fruits, the variety is considered to have low potential for large-scale industrial cultivation. It is characterized by very high resistance to scab.
