Trees of this variety have high growth vigor, especially when grafted onto quince. Due to the peculiarities of the crown, the variety is poorly shaped as a pyramid, therefore, espalier or counter-espalier training is recommended for it. The trees are quite sensitive to frost.
The fruits are large or very large, conical or pear-shaped, often with a bumpy surface. The skin is smooth, thick, lemon-yellow when ripe, sometimes with a red blush. The flesh is white, semi-buttery, melting, with a sweet wine flavor and aroma.
The fruits require careful handling due to the sensitivity of the skin to mechanical damage. Flavor qualities depend heavily on conditions: the best taste is manifested in warm, light soils with good illumination, whereas on cold clay soils the taste becomes mediocre.
1 jurisdiction
Green indicates countries where the variety is listed in the national catalogue and its seeds are authorized for sale. Expired registrations are marked separately: the variety was previously admitted, but sale is no longer permitted.
A single variety may be registered in different countries under different names. All records are consolidated into one profile based on the breeder's code—an internal number that is identical for the variety across all registries.
The primary name shown is the one under which the variety is registered in the largest number of jurisdictions. Search finds the variety by any of its names.
Records are sourced from official registry publications. Data sources and legal status
The directory replicates the primary source. If an entry differs from the official publication, please specify the discrepancy and provide a link if possible. Corrections are added to the moderation queue.
