The variety is a chance seedling discovered around 1770 in England. The tree is characterized by moderate growth, reaching a height of 3–5 meters depending on the rootstock and growing conditions. The plant requires warm locations protected from wind, shows susceptibility to scab and fire blight, and can be damaged by severe frosts.

The fruits have a pyriform bell shape with golden-yellow skin. The flesh is yellowish-white, juicy and melting, and possesses a harmonious sweet-and-sour taste. The variety is versatile: suitable for fresh consumption, canning, drying, and the production of fruit distillates.
