The shrub is broad and compact, reaching 1.2–1.5 m in height, up to 2.5 m under favorable conditions, with a width of 1.5–1.8 m. The leaves are evergreen, elliptical, dark green with a glossy sheen.
The flowering period occurs from mid-May to mid-June. When blooming, the flowers have an intense ruby-pink hue, which lightens over time. A large black-purple blotch is located inside the flower, and contrasting white stamens stand out.
The variety possesses winter hardiness down to -22°C. It prefers partial shade areas with acidic, humus-rich, moist and well-drained soils; it does not tolerate waterlogging or drought.
