The evergreen shrub 0.8–1 m in height and 1–1.3 m in width has a compact, loose growth habit. Leaves are dark green, glossy, and lanceolate in shape.
Large white flowers are adorned with a contrasting dark maroon or purple-red blotch with spotting in the center; petal edges may be slightly ruffled.
The variety is frost-hardy, withstanding USDA zones 5b–8b. It prefers semi-shaded or shaded sites with acidic, humic, well-drained soils and has a shallow root system.
Used for solitary plantings, group compositions, border arrangements, and woodland gardens.
