The variety is a deciduous shrub obtained as a result of open pollination of Rhododendron japonicum. The plant has an upright habit, reaching a height of about 2 m and a width of 3 m at the age of 20, although there is data on a height of 100–110 cm. Green elliptical leaves up to 10 cm long and up to 4 cm wide appear during the flowering period.
Large, broadly bell-shaped flowers with a diameter of 7.5–10 cm are gathered in inflorescences of 8–9 pieces up to 13 cm wide. Flowering occurs in May–June and lasts about 25 days. The plant is completely winter-hardy, requires sunny locations and acidic moist soils with a pH of 4.5–5.5.
The variety is intended for use in individual plantings, creating groups in mixed flower beds with heather and coniferous plants, as well as for landscaping urban areas.
