The variety «Katiuša» was bred at the Institute of Horticulture and Fruit Growing of the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC). The variety is included in the National List of Plant Varieties of Lithuania and is used in scientific research, including the evaluation of winter hardiness and resistance to major pathogens, such as bud mites.

There is also a «Катюша» variety of Belarusian breeding, which is a separate breeding object. The Lithuanian variety is intended for commercial and amateur horticulture, while official descriptions from the State Plant Service of Lithuania are required to obtain detailed morphological characteristics of the variety.
