The plant reaches a height of 30–40 cm, in individual cases up to 60 cm. The stems and foliage have a pronounced dark, burgundy shade, sometimes with a glaucous or metallic bloom. The dense clumps maintain an upright shape and are resistant to lodging.

Flowering occurs in the period from August to October, when corymbose inflorescences of ruby-red or burgundy color open. The variety prefers sunny areas with well-drained soils and is characterized by high winter hardiness in USDA zones 3–9.

The plant is used in decorative gardening for borders, group plantings, and container cultivation. It retains its decorative qualities even after flowering ends due to the dried inflorescences.
