The variety was obtained by exposing regenerated plants of the Desirée variety to gamma radiation. This breeding work was conducted to obtain forms with altered morphological traits while retaining the positive qualities of the parent variety.
The main visual difference between Desital and Desirée is the color of the tuber skin: in the new variety, it is white. Biological indicators, including maturity group, yield, adaptability to growing conditions, and dry matter content, correspond to the parameters of the original variety.
The variety underwent a virus-free certification procedure with the assistance of the International Potato Center. The purpose of the variety is to expand the market assortment by providing an alternative skin color.
