The variety has a medium-late maturity group with a period to flowering of about 134 days and a total growing season of up to 7 months. The plant is characterized by a prostrate or semi-erect growth habit and large leaves. The seeds are black in color and possess a high level of hard-seededness, which contributes to pasture regeneration.

Unlike other subspecies, Antas does not possess an active seed-burial mechanism; however, the long peduncles allow the seeds to penetrate the soil through cracks and terrain irregularities. The variety demonstrates vigorous growth during the autumn-winter period, high nutritional value, and moderate resistance to root rots caused by Pythium and Fusarium.
