The Limbara variety was bred for adaptation to European Mediterranean climatic conditions, unlike a number of Australian varieties. The plant belongs to the mid-late maturity group.

Like other representatives of the species Trifolium subterraneum, this variety has the ability to self-regenerate through geocarpy — a process in which seeds are buried in the soil upon maturation.
