Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety has long stems and sparse foliage. It is characterized by early maturity, which causes it to dry out too quickly under certain conditions. A high level of hard-seededness ensures good survival for the plant and the ability to regenerate the population after drought periods.

The plant contains significant levels of the phytoestrogen formononetin. When grazed by sheep, the variety causes "clover disease," which manifests as reduced fertility, the onset of temporary or permanent infertility, and parturition pathologies in animals.

Historically, the variety was used in pasture-based livestock farming in regions with a Mediterranean climate. Due to the negative impact on the reproductive function of sheep, the variety has been withdrawn from commercial production and is subject to replacement with modern low-estrogen analogs.
