The variety "Ostar" is a result of breeding work to improve the characteristics of spelt, in particular, to increase lodging resistance. This feature allows for the use of intensive cultivation technologies and fertilizer application without the risk of significant yield losses.
The plant belongs to hulled cereals. It frequently appears in specialized publications as an object for the analysis of baking properties, the composition of glutenins and gliadins, as well as for comparative genetic research.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
