The Pava variety was obtained through multi-year selection from heterogeneous source material stored in the Slovenian Plant Gene Bank since 1980. The variety breeding was conducted by specialists from the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana.
Morphologically, the variety is characterized by an erect spike and light yellow anther color. The variety is classified as a conservation variety, intended for the maintenance of biodiversity and adaptation to local conditions.
