The Starke variety was developed as part of a breeding program by W. Weibull AB to improve the milling characteristics of winter wheat varieties. The breeding was based on the genetic material of the Hungarian variety Bankut 178.
This variety was intended for the production of high-quality grain suitable for processing. In the literature, it is classified as a variety with "strong" technological qualities, possessing superior characteristics for milling.
