The variety was obtained by crossing Ulmus ‘Plantijn’ and Ulmus × hollandica ‘Wredei’. It was created as part of a breeding program for selecting disease-resistant species for landscape use.

The elm is characterized by good resistance to Dutch elm disease, corresponding to a resistance level of 4. Morphologically, the variety is classified as a 'golden elm' (Goudiep) of the ‘Wredei’ type, which determines its appearance and foliage color.
