Aurea is a local variety that has been included in a program for the restoration of "lost" grapevine varieties. The process of its reintroduction into cultivation involves a multi-year period of agronomic and oenological research.
Historically, the variety fell out of use due to the difficulty of achieving full maturity under previous climatic conditions. Current research shows that the variety is now capable of successfully completing its development cycle while maintaining high acidity, which imparts freshness to the wines.
