The variety has a long history dating back to the Gallo-Roman era. Aspiran blanc is a white mutation of the Rivairenc variety and was historically used not only for the production of light, aromatic wines with expressive acidity, but also as a table grape due to its sweet taste.

The vines of this variety are moderately vigorous, forming medium-sized, loose, conical, and often winged bunches. The berries are medium-sized, oval or egg-shaped, with juicy flesh. The variety tolerates stony soils and drought well; however, it is sensitive to winter frosts and is susceptible to major fungal diseases, such as downy mildew, powdery mildew, and gray mold.
