The variety is used in winemaking, primarily as a component of blends with Malvasía, Breval, and Listán Blanco. The crop is characterized by drought tolerance, low acidity, and low intensity of berry color. Genetically, it is a descendant of the Hebén variety.
It is grown primarily in the Canary Islands, including Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and La Palma, where it is included in the lists of permitted varieties for regional designations of origin. The variety should be distinguished from the French grape Bourboulenc and the Crimean variety Alburla.
