The variety was bred in Bulgaria as a result of selection work. It is a technical (wine) variety and is widely cultivated within the country.
The grapes accumulate a sufficient amount of sugars and tannins, which allows for the production of high-quality red wines from it. The variety is also used by breeders to create new hybrids due to its characteristics.
