Variety description

The variety has moderate vigor and semi-erect shoots. Bunches are medium-sized, of moderate density, often with a wing. Berries are medium-sized, round, dark blue, almost black in color, covered with an abundant waxy bloom. The skin is of moderate thickness, the pulp is juicy.

Belongs to the category of very early varieties: buds burst 5 days before the Chasselas variety, and berry ripening occurs a week after it. The variety is quite fertile with long pruning, but shows low productivity with short pruning.

The variety shows high tolerance to flavescence dorée and, due to early ripening, is less susceptible to Botrytis cinerea, however, it can suffer from damage by birds and wasps. Historically used as a table grape, it is now valued as genetic material.

Wine from this variety is colored, with moderate or low acidity and a complex fruit profile with aromas of black fruits and licorice.
