The variety is native to the Madrid region. The bunches are characterized as fairly large and loose; the berries are large, oval-shaped, and yellowish-green in color. The variety is distinguished by high productivity and drought tolerance, although it may exhibit a tendency toward irregular fruit set.

Wines from the MALVAR variety possess expressive acidity and medium body. The aromatic profile includes notes of citrus, green apple, anise, or fennel. When aged in oak barrels, the bouquet develops hints of vanilla, honey, and nuts.
