The variety is a product of the natural hybridization of the Malvasia Bianca Lunga and Negroamaro varieties. It is genetically identical to Malvasia Nera di Lecce. The vine has vigorous growth; the leaf is round, five-lobed, slightly to moderately divided, with an open lyre-shaped petiolar sinus.
The variety is of mid-late ripening. The bunches are medium-sized, cylindrical or cylindrical-conical, and dense. The berries are small to medium, round, dark blue in color with a thick waxy bloom, thick skin, and juicy pulp.
The plant does not possess frost resistance and is susceptible to fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and gray mold. The yield of the variety is medium. It is used exclusively in winemaking to create wines with moderate tannins and acidity.
