The vine is characterized by high fertility and the ability to produce an abundant yield, the volume of which requires control. Most representatives prefer a dry climate and dry soils; in conditions of high humidity, they are prone to fungal diseases such as grey mold, and many varieties are also not winter-hardy.

Using Malvasia Istriana as an example, a mid-late or late maturity group is noted. The bunch is medium-sized, cylindroconical, often winged, ranging from medium-density to loose. The berry is white, medium or small, round, with juicy flesh and a thick waxy bloom. The leaf is wedge-shaped, five-lobed, and slightly dissected.

Wines from Malvasia family varieties possess a rich taste and pronounced aromatics with floral notes, hints of honey, nuts, apricot, and peach.
