The variety is ancient and historically associated with the Tarn valley. The leaf is small, rounded, slightly lobed, with dense felt-like pubescence on the underside. Clusters are small or medium, compact. Berries are medium or small, rounded, white in color, sometimes with a tan.

The plant has moderate vigor and above-average yield, preferring calcareous soils. The variety is frost-resistant but susceptible to downy mildew, anthracnose, eutypiosis, and grey mold. Short pruning is recommended to obtain high-quality yield.

Wines from the Mauzac variety are characterized by pronounced acidity and aromas of dried apples, ripe pear, melon, honey, and spicy notes. The variety is prone to oxidation, so it is recommended to consume the wines young. There are rare mutations, such as Mauzac Rose, and a separate variety, Mauzac Noir.
