The variety is a natural hybrid of an unknown variety and Savagnin Blanc. The plant is characterized by high vigor. Leaves are large, round or kidney-shaped, five-lobed, dark green in color, turning a reddish hue by autumn. Clusters are small or medium, cylindrical or cylindrical-conical in shape, density varies.

Berries are small, narrow, ellipsoid or ovoid, dark blue in color with a thick waxy bloom and thin skin. The variety ripens 3–3.5 weeks after the Chasselas variety. It has low resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, and is sensitive to spring frosts. It prefers calcareous soils and sunny slopes; long pruning is recommended.

Wines made from Persan grapes have potential for long aging (10–15 years), high acidity, and notes of raspberry and violet in the aroma.
