Petit Courbu is an autochthonous variety of the Gascony region and the Pyrenees foothills. It is genetically related to a group of regional varieties such as Gros Courbu, Courbu Blanc, and Lauzet, although it differs morphologically from Courbu Blanc. The variety belongs to the late maturity group.
The plant has hermaphroditic flowers and is characterized by low vigor and low yield. Leaves are medium-sized, pentagonal, with 3–5 lobes. Bunches and berries are small; upon ripening, the berries acquire a whitish-yellow hue. Long pruning is recommended for this variety.
The variety is sensitive to fungal diseases, is not resistant to high humidity, the development of grey mold, and severe frosts. It is a wine grape variety valued for its ability to provide freshness, balance, and subtle notes of pear, apple, honey, and citrus to wines. It is used primarily in blends.
