The variety belongs to the species Vitis vinifera and was first mentioned in the 17th century in the canton of Valais. It is genetically distinct, having no close relatives among other known varieties. Vine growth vigor is medium, with a characteristic early bud break.
Bunches are of medium size, elongated, compact, with a distinct wing. Berries are small, round, yellow-green in color, and may develop a tan when ripening in the sun. The variety has high requirements for conditions: it prefers limestone soils on steep sunny slopes and tolerates waterlogging poorly.
The plant is sensitive to spring frosts, winds, and herbicide exposure. Shoots are prone to breakage, which requires the use of trellises. The grapes are used for the production of wine in various styles — from dry to dessert, which are characterized by floral and citrus notes in the aroma.
